Heavy Traffic & Delays in Lockwood due to Big Horn County Sheriff’s Funeral at Lockwood School.

Lockwood will be congested with a lot of traffic and law enforcement due to Sheriff King’s Funeral. 

There will be a big law enforcement presence in Lockwood along with traffic congestion due to Sheriff Kings funeral at the Lockwood School.  Lockwood School is also going to be in session so please be respectful as well as know ahead of time of the time restraints you and/or the students might have.

HARDIN, MT Here are details of memorial services for Big Horn County Sheriff Darrell King, 55,who passed away November 19 in an on-duty vehicle accident. King’s memorial service begins at 10a.m. Wednesday morning, November 29, at the Lockwood High School Gymnasium just east ofBillings, Mont.

At 8 a.m. Wednesday a lengthy procession of public safety vehicles will escort the late Sheriff fromHardin to the service at Lockwood High School. Before, during and after the service and then at the cemetery, Honor Guards will pay respects, representing the United States Marine Corps, the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, and officers gathered with the Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association. Family has chosen a simple service of reading the obituary, remarks by a family member and a friend, a short sermon and slide show, and live music. The service will be live-streamed on the Facebook page of #YellowstoneCountySheriffsOffice.

At the Lockwood High School and cemetery, please follow directions of attendants directing parking traffic. Handicapped parking is available at the High School. The family requests that media at the serviceremain in the gym balcony in a designated media area. The only media interview opportunity is at 9:30 with Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office.

Following the service the procession and Honor Guards return to Hardin for interment ceremoniesat the Fairview Cemetery west of Hardin, at Vanzandt and Cemetery Roads, followed by the traditional last radio call. Due to the routes of the lengthy processions, drivers may expect delaysWednesday morning in Hardin, on Interstate 90, and in Lockwood on Johnson Lane and US Highway87 East. Travel to Lockwood Schools will be slow after about 8:30 a.m.

Community volunteers, businesses and public safety professionals from Big Horn County and across Montana have stepped forward to provide logistical and operational support for the memorial, ranging from EMS to coffee for participants. Regional law enforcement has coordinated to cover local needs as professionals from Big Horn County, the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations participate in the memorial.
