POMPEYS PILLAR — A fire that spread from one trailer to another sent three adults scrambling for safety early last week when a blaze broke out in a wood stove.
Aaron Dlutowski, Rod Grant and Linda Pollock fled when the fire erupted Wednesday, Jan. 30, scorching several motorcycles and burning down sheds as well as the two trailers parked near each other at 3483 Fourth Street in Pompeys Pillar.
When the Worden Volunteer Fire Department arrived, both trailers were aflame. Dlutowski was living in the smaller trailer and had packed his belongings to move out that day.
Grant and Pollock were living in the larger unit and escaped the fire by crawling out a window. They went to the other trailer and banged on it to wake Dlutowski, who then fled from the home, according to Worden Fire Chief Lance Taylor.
Grant and Pollock were also planning to move out of the trailer and had secured another place to live, according to Fire Marshall and Undersheriff Seth Weston.
Both trailers were gutted and listed as total losses. They were not insured. One dog perished in the fire.
About 10,000 gallons of water was poured onto the fire, reported at 4:50 a.m. to the Worden department.
